COIN 2.0

2013-2015

Coin was an all-in-one electronic card that stored all the swipe data from up to eight different debit and credit cards onto one device. Coin let consumers select which stored credit card to use at will. It was pretty innovative thinking. However, the first generation of Coin was plagued with bugs and was too thick to fit in many ATM’s, meaning you still had to carry your regular cards just in case, defeating Coin’s entire premise. The second-gen version didn’t improve that much and consumers balked at paying Coin $100 when their smartphone transactions were free. In the end, Coin didn’t make a lot of sense, or cents.
