Spotify Car Thing
In April 2021, Spotify announced the cleverly titled “Car Thing”, a small touchscreen device for playing music in your car via Bluetooth. Sound familiar? The entire reason for Spotify’s existence is for people to listen to music on their phones without a second device, and now they’ve created a standalone device… that can only run Spotify. Released in 2022, it left everyone asking, “Why?” The Car Thing was priced at $89.99, a pretty steep cost for something completely unnecessary since all modern cars and phones already do this. But hey, at least Spotify offered refunds to the unfortunate few who bought it.
