Dyson invented the bagless vacuum cleaner and continues to innovate. However, innovation may have gone overboard with their 2023 Zone air-purifying headphones. The Zone’s detachable visor that goes over the mouth purifies the air for urban commuters. But who needs a $949 air purifying gadget that makes you look like a science fiction villain? Upon its 2022 reveal, Dyson had to defend itself from social media roasts, clarifying that “This is no April Fool’s joke.” Realizing their mistake, Dyson now markets the Zone as high-end noise-canceling headphones, ditching the air-purifying angle. Even the slogan morphed from “Pure Audio. Pure Air. Anywhere” to “Pure Audio. Advanced noise cancellation”, with the visor quietly disappearing from promotional photos.
