Four Loko

“Your Night Starts Here” is the tagline for this self-touted “premium flavored malt beverage.” Originally released as an alcoholic energy drink, the “Four” in the name refers to the four key ingredients: caffeine, taurine, guarana, and… alcohol. LOTS of it. 

It’s no wonder then that this high-alcohol caffeinated energy drink quickly became popular amongst young people who renamed it “blackout in a can!” In 2010, the FDA stated that Four Loko was a “public health concern,” prompting the drink to be reformulated. In 2016, Four Loko made a comeback in China, where it was referred to as “virginity losing liquor.”
