Fyre Festival
2017
Imagine a fiasco so spectacular that it generated two documentaries. Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Hulu’s Fyre Fraud were both released in 2019.
Averaging at around €7,000 per ticket, the music festival attracted rich and wannabe-rich festival-goers. Celebrities and influencers such as Kendall Jenner, Ashanti, Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, and Hailey Baldwin promoted the event on social media saying they would attend. But, instead of meeting Instagram models, visitors got to get up close and personal with biting sandflies. Instead of luxury accommodation, they got leftover disaster relief tents. And no music.
The gourmet catering was a sandwich. The rich kids that flew in from around the world got the saddest festival lunch ever.
