Movie Pass

2011- 2019

Great idea! For $9.95 per month, subscribers could watch a movie per day at their local cinema. The MoviePass business model was too good to be true. The company bought movie tickets at list price and assumed that most subscribers wouldn’t actually use the service regularly. Like gyms where most members don’t actually use the gym. But the problem was that people like movies more than they like going to the gym. MoviePass started losing money on every subscriber and it went bankrupt. MoviePass relaunched in 2022 with a new price structure and points-based system.
