Deloitte is (was?) one of the world's most prestigious consulting firms. The was hired by the Australian government to review its complex and sensitive welfare compliance system. The 237-page report cost A$440,000.

Deloitte let ChatGPT generate the report. We can only guess the prompting needed for such an extensive and expensive report: “write a fancy report in consultant lingo with lots of statistics and graphs.” Bam. Done. The highly paid consultants did not even bother proofreading it.

The report submitted to the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations was full of fabricated references. Full of AI hallucinations.

Deloitte admitted to using ChatGPT and faced massive critique. An Australian senator said the problem was not an AI problem, but a "human intelligence problem." This is not a collage student outsourcing report-writing to AI. It is a massive consulting firm whose entire business model is based on selling premium human expertise. Deloitte was forced to apologize and refund the government.

Perhaps instead of hiring an expensive consulting firm, it would be better to buy a ChatGPT Plus subscription??
