Disney Galactic Starcruiser
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was a Disney owned hotel offering a two-day immersive Star Wars roleplay experience with costumed staff, activities such as lightsaber training, and according to the official website, a “culinary extravaganza.” Disney spent more than $300 million on the Starcruiser, but had to shut it down after just a year. Guests paid $5000 per couple for a two-night experience. Yes - $5000! The rooms were cramped and windowless, one guest hilariously noting on Twitter that “the $5000 Star Wars hotel looks way more reminiscent of the dystopian prison in Andor than anything else in Star Wars.” And the AI-app to interact with the storyline often didn’t work, rendering guest’s choices irrelevant. For many, the experience felt more like a glitchy scam than the Star Wars of their childhood.
