Trump announced his tariff policy that promises to protect American industry and jobs by making imported goods more expensive. It is really hard to overstate the impact these tariffs have had in reshaping global trade. So the tariffs were definitely bigly and would later create chaos in global markets. The calculations of these tariffs is very important both for the US and every other country.

All this math was too complex why not just let AI do it? Just like the dumbest kid in the class would do, this is exactly what the administration did. The USA government let AI calculate these for global trade and world politics critical maths.

The formula suggested by AI for calculating the tariffs was a simple formula: divide the trade deficit between the US and a given country by the value of the total goods imported from it, and then divide the result by two. All four of the most popular AI bots suggested this simple formula.

AI also hallucinated countries and import statistics. Tariffs were imposed on imports into the US from places including uninhabited islands, barren, uninhabited volcanic islands near Antarctica.
