Called “the worst tech device of the year” Facebook’s smart display device was doomed from the the start. The innovative AI technology for improved video calling received good reviews, but the innovation failed because of a lack of trust. After a year of serious data privacy scandals, consumers rejected the idea of a Facebook camera in their homes. 

Facebook portal failed, not because of technology or design, it failed because of trust. People no longer trust the company because of their history of data privacy abuse. Trust is hard to build up and so easy to loose.
