SAMSUNG SMART FRIDGE - ADS

2025

Samsung’s Family Hub smart refrigerators cost between $1,800 and $3,500. For that price, you would not expect ads. Android Authority’s tech geniuses noticed that a recent software update turned these luxury appliances into digital billboards. In your kitchen.

The update shows promotions and advertisements on the fridge’s touchscreen whenever it is idle. Samsung insists this “strengthens the value” of ownership, though it feel more like a nightmarish corporate dystopia.

Critics mocked Samsung’s move as an example of tech “enshittification.” Expensive hardware, AI-enhanced and connected to Wifi for unwanted features, but mostly to turn every appliance in your house an advertising platform.

A reddit user commented:
waiting for the subscription service that locks the door after 120 openings per month. You can get 240 door opens per month for $19.99 or go with the unlimited plan for $39.99 that will include 1 complimentary water filter per year.

Gizmodo suspects that the forced ads on fridges might only be the beginning. “There’s no reason why Samsung couldn’t update its appliances with screens to display ads, from its latest $1,100 Bespoke AI Jet Ultra vacuum to its $2,300 Bespoke AI Oven.”

The future is so exciting!!!
